Make Me a Servant

Make Me a Servant

Dimension: 30 by 23cm.

Medium: Acrylic on canvas.

Year completed: 2018.

This picture was inspired by my friend and mentor who taught me what it means to lead.

During my teenage years, I love the song by the Maranatha Singers "Make Me a Servant."

The song goes like this:

"Make me a servant

Humble and meek.

Lord let me lift up

Those who are weak

And may the prayer

Of my heart always be

Make me a servant

Make me a servant

Make me a servant today."

However, as I gain in years, I find it harder and harder to serve others.  Acuminated experiences, enlarged social capital, hightened social status puffs up.  Outwardly I appear humble and serves others but inwardly, my pride and craving for recognition are eating me up.

But not my friend Jerry. He serves. Without any fanfare.  He plows the snow, services the car engine, checks the car brakes, unchocks the gutters and sewage pipes without any need for recognisation.  Jerry, like Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (Matthew 20:28).

So, raise your hand if you want to be a servant!
