  • Equanimity

In this striking new work, Equanimity serves as a visual sanctuary, drawing the viewer into the vibrant, sacred heart of a blooming lavender field at the break of dawn. This painting is a profound exploration of the internal stillness that can be found when we fully surrender to the present moment.

The composition is dominated by rich, capturing purples—the colour of royalty and quiet dignity—layered with a texture that reflects a deep, foundational peace. The scene is bathed in the bluish, pre-dawn hue of a sun still in slumber, creating an atmosphere of "Sabbath rest." A delicate layer of fog clings to the earth, reflecting the morning dusk light and acting as a soft "cloud of presence" that buffers the soul from the noise of the world.

In the background, a stand of tall pine trees rises with quiet strength. Like the "cedars of Lebanon," these evergreens represent a steadfast, rooted faith that remains unshaken by the shifting mists. They provide a vertical, grounded contrast to the fluid, horizontal expanse of the lavender below.

    A Moment for the Soul

As you stand before the vastness of this purple field, I invite you to look past the canvas and into the landscape of your own spirit. Equanimity is my artistic rendering of the biblical call to "be still, and know," but that stillness often requires us to confront the noise we carry within.

Consider these questions as you allow the painting to speak to you:

    • The Weight of the Chest: In the "slumbering" blue of this morning, can you identify the specific anxieties that cause your chest to tighten? What would it feel like to finally let the Ruach—the breath of life—expand those heavy places and heal what the world has bruised?

    • The Presence in the Mist: If the fog represents the uncertainties of your current season, are you able to see the "cloud of presence" within it, or do you only see the lack of clarity? Can you trust that the sun is coming, even while it remains in slumber?

    • The Rootedness of the Pine: In a world that demands constant movement, what are the "tall pines" in your life—the spiritual anchors that keep you upright when the mists of life begin to shift?

    • The Fragrance of Grace: The "morning smell" of this field is a sweet-smelling incense. Are you allowing yourself the grace to pause, or has your spiritual life become a series of tasks rather than a restorative walk through the garden?

"Equanimity is the heart’s ‘Amen’ to the stillness of the morning. It asks: Will you continue to carry the weight of yesterday, or will you breathe in the peace that has already been prepared for you?"
